I tried my first hot oil treatment and it did wonders for my locs. I’ve been trying other conditioners, (not withstanding the conditioner post I wrote about earlier), and this simple treatment softened my hair, reduced frizziness in my new growth and felt good overall.
I shampooed with a castile soap, then I towel-dried my hair. I poured Jamaican Mango and Lime Island Oil throughout from roots to ends. It wasn’t warm when I applied it. So I put on a shower cap and wrapped a towel over it. I kept it on overnight to allow it to work.
The next morning, I rinsed the oil out as much as I could and shampooed one more time with the castile soap to remove the excess oil. I towel dried my hair and noticed that my new growth which gets fuzzy each shampoo didn’t this time. My locs were softer. I didn’t have to put a lot of products on afterwards to soften them. It seemed like a simple thing to do for my hair, and it wasn’t as messy as I thought.
So if you’re looking for a treatment or conditioner for your locs, try a hot oil treatment. It did wonders.
