Our hair throughout the ages

Check out www.locdlife.com for three new stories today:

  • For Starters: Mens style on starter locs gallery
  • Metamorphosis: An interview with loc’d makeup artist Akua Auset
  • Have a cup of Tea: Herbal Infusions for your locs

In the meantime, take a look at the work of artist Loanne Hizo Ostlie of Tabloach Productions. She reroots Barbie dolls to create—you guessed it—a loc’d Barbie. See the slide show above to see more of her work, and visit http://www.tabloach.com. (If that link doesn’t work, try http://www.bebarbie.net/2008/07/unique-barbie-doll-re-roots.html) She also sells her work on Ebay.

Today we have a loc’d Barbie as a new standard of beauty. In the past, the choices were not always as kind or not nearly as diverse. Take a look at some of these print ads, and I’ve included some vintage commercials from TV. This is the first of a series on this topic ((courtesy of vieilles annonces), youtube.com, and http://karenhalliburton.com). We’ve come a long way.

Until next time,
