A great conditioner for locs

Happy Holidays! We at Loc’d Life Magazine www.locdlife.com hope you and yours had a Merry Christmas. We are working very hard to bring some exciting things to you in the coming weeks. Stay tuned. Also check our site this week for new stories.

This post is about an excellent conditioner I found: SheaMoisture Organic Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque.

I have been on the search high and low for a conditioning treatment that quenches my locs’ never-ending need for moisture, and I miss not having a go-to after-shampoo conditioner that I can use without fear of buildup.

I tried the Deep Treatment Masque, and I was immediately drawn to its light, yet creamy texture. I applied it to my locs, and I applied it section by section, from roots to especially the ends. I let it stay on for 30 minutes—right at the end of the recommended time of between 5-30 minutes—with a plastic shower cap.

When I rinsed it out, my roots were very soft. My locs were also soft along the entire shaft. It rinsed out well, and I rinsed very well to remove all of the product by completely saturating my locs. My locs felt genuinely soft and not just “coated”.

The Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque has sea kelp which detoxifies, argan oil for shine and elasticity, and the main ingredient, shea butter for moisture.

This product has an interesting backstory: SheaMoisture was started by a woman who sold shea nuts in a village market in Africa. She added Black Soap and other homemade hair and skin products as well. Today, her family has developed her initial offerings into a well-rounded line of shea butter products that are now widely available at your local Target store.

What works for you, works for you. But I like the Deep Treatment Masque, and I will be trying more of its line.

That’s all for now. Until next time, happy locs!

  1. I’m a fan of this Shea Moisture product as well. My locs are only 9 months along, but my hair loves this stuff, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down the locing process for me at all.

After DC’ing, I spritz on some Jane Carter Leave-In, then use the Shea Moisture Reconstructive Serum for sealing in the moisture and adding a nice sheen. It has the same great scent as the mask. I really love the fact that these are available at my local Target and are so reasonably priced. A winner!!!
